Holiday Season

Now that the temperature is starting to cool down, it is really starting to feel like the holiday season! Although summer is my favorite season, November and December are two of the best months because they have the best holidays. Christmas is hands down the best holiday and Thanksgiving is definitely a close second. It is also the start of basketball season, which has always been my favorite sport.

Christmas is my favorite holiday for many different reasons. When I was younger, it was always exciting to get a couple weeks off of school. I loved getting to stay home and help my mom decorate the house for Christmas and to just hang out with my siblings and watch Christmas movies. I also loved looking through Christmas catalogs to make my Christmas list, as well as going Christmas shopping to buy my siblings and parents their Christmas gifts.

Looking back, Christmas was always more fun as a kid and I wish it would still feel like it did back then. There is still a lot to look forward to though, even though I'm older. I still love helping my mom decorate the house for Christmas while listening to the same Christmas albums we always have. Some of the albums we usually listen to are from Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Elvis Presley and, my personal favorite, a Christmas album called "A Redneck Christmas." All the songs are "redneck" versions of famous Christmas songs and they are so funny! I also have a longer Christmas break than I did in high school, so I have that to look forward to.

Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday solely for the food. My favorite foods to eat are turkey, mashed potatoes, corn casserole, deviled eggs and rolls. I'm not a big pumpkin pie fan, so that just means I have more room for the real food instead of having to save room for dessert! Then the rest of the day is spent rotting on the couch with a full stomach watching football, which is pretty much my ideal day.

Basketball season also starts in November and basketball has always been my favorite sport because I have been around it my whole life. Basketball is my dad's favorite sport, so growing up, we were always watching and playing basketball. I had cousins who played on my high school's team when I was younger, so we always went to her games. Even after she graduated, my family always went to most of the games. Because I grew up with basketball, it will always be my favorite sport and something I can look forward to during the holiday season when I'm home from school.

  1. Christmas is also my favorite holiday! I know a lot of people like to wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate but I remember watching movies with my family all through November. The catalog Christmas lists are so nostalgic for me too because I rarely hear anyone else talk about it. It sounds like you have a lot of exciting things coming up just around the corner!
